Events - Family Violence Prevention

The Family Violence Prevention program has been funded by the Department of Premier and Cabinet through the Multicultural Affairs and Social Cohesion division to support gender equality and address prevention of family violence in the Indian community in Victoria.
Ladies Day Out for Northern Melbourne Suburbs | 8th February 2019
Collaboratively organised by BSL, Northern Community Legal Centre, Vic Police and Oorja foundation along with IndianCare.
 
Bellfield Cricket Club | 18th January 2019
Information session organised in conjunction with LDAT program, on Conflict Management and Effective Communication presented to Bellfield Cricket Club members by IndianCare Family Violence Co-ordinator.
 
Family Violence event - Dandenong |8th December 2019
IndianCare, VAN and SMRC organised an event, to promote healthy relationships for the Indian and Afghani community,  including amazing Indian dances and a forum theatre.
 
Family Violence workshop for Punjabi Male Seniors |20th November 2019
IndianCare provided basic training on Family violence, prevention and bystander response for the men's group managed by BSL in the Northern suburbs.
 
Family Violence Information session with Police | 6th October 2019
IndianCare organised an information session with the Family Violence Liaison Officer from Werribee police station for the Indian volunteers in the western region.
 
Conflict Management workshop | 5th October 2019
Workshop at Craigieburn on Conflict Management and Effective Communication for Punjabi women, delivered by a qualified IndianCare volunteer.
 
Family Violence workshop by InTouch | 31st August 2019
IndianCare organised a Family Violence workshop, delivered by InTouch. The attendees included IndianCare board members, staff, volunteers and Indian community leaders about understanding and responding to family violence. 
 
MuSeS multicultural service provision research | 17th August 2019
A workshop with Punjabi women by MCWH in Wyndham. Experiences of settlement, family violence and service access issues were explored. 
 
Gurudwara Sahib Hoppers Crossing Presentation | 26 May 2019
IndianCare along with local MP Hon Sarah Conolly and Victoria Police presented to the congregation at the Gurudwara on Family Safety
 
 
'Voices of Shakti -That Girl' event |

IndianCare collaborated with a range of groups to promote the message of gender equality. This event held at the Immigration Museum also enabled IndianCare to launch its Information, Support and Referral Service

IndianCare, assisted InConcert Music to present an evening of cultural music and dance promoting gender equality and women's empowerment.
 

Brimbank Community Consultation Session

IndianCare in partnership with InTouch, successfully organised a second community consultation session on the issue of family violence particularly exploring motivations for change by men.

White Ribbon Day | 8 December 2018
IndianCare partnered with Southern Migrant and Refugee Centre to hold a White Ribbon Day event during the 16 days of Activism against gender based violence. 

Community Consultation Session, Dandenong | 30 Nov 2018
IndianCare is working with InTouch on the Motivation for Change program for men who use family violence from South Asian background to assist them in stopping their use of violence. 
 
Colours of Dance |18 February 2018
In partnership with InTouch and Ashray, IndianCare presented an evening in support of Gender Equality and Women Empowerment with guest artist from India, Dr.Nartaki Nataraj and local artists Murali Kumar and Shobha Shekar
 
SBS Radio interviews | 7 Nov, 2018
SBS Radio, Gujarati interviewed Tina Guido, General Manager, on issues in the Indian community and services of IndianCare. She also did an live interview for SBS Radio Hindi with a focus on the issue of family violence in the Indian community and IndianCare’s program on family violence prevention.

Spread the Word, Light the World | Oct 06, 2018
As part of the Empowering Communities network project, funded by InTouch, a Diwali arts event was conducted at the Dandenong Seniors Citizens Centre. Nandita Nadkarni led participants to make clay lamp holders (diyas) and showcasing a dance performance by Karma Dance company to promote the message of gender equality.
